Connect Answered by Steve to ChatGPT.

Install and sign into the Windows app first. Then follow the expandable steps below using the same Answered by Steve account throughout.

Step-by-step

ChatGPT Plugins connection guide

ChatGPT’s interface may move slightly over time. Follow the labels shown in each screenshot.

01Open Settings and go to Security and loginStart in ChatGPT Settings and select Security and login.

Important: stay inside the Settings window. The next step starts from the Security and login page.

02Inside Settings, select Plugins and enable Developer modeThis must happen before opening the main Plugins page.

In the Settings sidebar, select Plugins. Under Developer mode, turn the switch on. ChatGPT labels this as elevated risk because developer connectors can request actions. Answered by Steve still enforces your authenticated account and Windows dispatcher policy.

Leave Enforce CSP in developer mode at its current setting unless support specifically tells you otherwise.

03Close Settings, then open Plugins and select +Now use Plugins in ChatGPT’s main sidebar.

Close the Settings window. In ChatGPT’s main left sidebar near the top, select Plugins. Then select the + button on the right side of the Plugins page.

If Plugins is not shown there, open Settings, select Personal, and then select +.

04Copy the MCP Tunnel URL from the clientUse MCP Setup, copy the address, then paste it into Server URL.

Use the Answered by Steve client so you copy the correct address instead of typing it manually.

Select MCP Setup in the Answered by Steve client.
Select Copy Tunnel URL in the setup window.
Return to ChatGPT and paste the copied address into the Server URL field.

Important: keep Server URL selected. Paste the address into the Connection box shown in the screenshot.

05Sign in again, approve permissions, and connectAuthorize ChatGPT using your Answered by Steve account.

Complete the second Answered by Steve sign-in

After you create the plugin, ChatGPT will open another Answered by Steve sign-in. This second sign-in is expected. It authorizes ChatGPT to use the Answered by Steve connection separately from the Windows app.

Sign in with the same answeredbysteve.com account you created and used in the Windows app. After sign-in, review and approve the permissions prompt. Completing both prompts allows the plugin to connect.

Never enter your ChatGPT or OpenAI password into Answered by Steve.

Your ChatGPT/OpenAI credentials are not used by this app and will not work on the Answered by Steve sign-in. Only use the Answered by Steve account you created for answeredbysteve.com. At no point should this setup ask you to type your ChatGPT or OpenAI password into an Answered by Steve page.

When authorization finishes, open Answered by Steve in Plugins. The App row should show a green dot and Connected. Select Try in chat to open a conversation with the connector available.

06Open ManageUse the three-dot menu to reach plugin settings.

Select the ... menu beside Answered by Steve, then select Manage.

Do not select Uninstall unless you intentionally want to remove the connector.

07Open PermissionsReview how ChatGPT may use the connector.

Inside Manage, select Permissions. The current permission policy appears on the right side of the row.

Your Windows app still applies its own local policy after ChatGPT approves a connector action.

08Choose the permission policyDecide how often ChatGPT should ask before acting.

Select the policy that matches your intent

Always ask — asks before reading or making changes.
Allow read actions — reads without asking, but asks before changes.
Allow low-risk actions — automatically approves low-risk actions.
Allow all actions — ChatGPT does not ask before using the plugin; this carries elevated risk.

For the current full-access beta workflow, choose Allow all actions only when you understand and accept that behavior. Your Windows dispatcher’s local policy remains the final execution authority.

Open a new chat and ask: Check whether my Windows computer is connected.
